Numbers 1:50 -
But thou shalt appoint the Levites
over the tabernacle of testimony, and over all the vessels thereof, and over all
things that belong to it: they shall bear the tabernacle, and all the vessels thereof;
and they shall minister unto it, and shall encamp round about the tabernacle.
The Trustees are charged with humbly acting as guardians of the physical property
and other assets of the church. It is a responsibility that is deeply rooted
within scripture and one that is not taken lightly. We must, with a Godly
wisdom and a servant's attitude, prayerfully utilize the church's God-given resources
in such a way that brings glory to God and to His people. We must, to the
best of our ability, insure that the people of God are able to worship God in a
facility and environment that is not only well-maintained, but also equipped to
allow the church body to grow and realize its full God-given potential.
We are also charged with making sure that order and decorum are maintained during
worship services. This by no means implies that we are to "quench the Spirit",
but it indicates that whatever is being spoken or acted upon in the church should
be done in such a way that Jesus would not hesitate to say, "Well done my good and
faithful servant"!
